Dear Colleagues,

It is with great pleasure that I invite you to join the Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA), the Arts Earth Partnership (AEP), Manzana Energy, LLC and the Artists Eco Alliance in support of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa’s efforts to make Los Angeles the greenest city in America . We present the Arts, Culture and Entertainment Community’s GREEN LA Initiative. Many of you have already been contacted and are eager to join forces with us. However, we thought it is important to invite everyone to the table to hear more about this exciting initiative.

Therefore, the ACEC Green LA Initiative will host a general meeting Wednesday, February 10, 2010, 1 to 3 pm at Barnsdall Gallery Theatre, 4800 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90027. At the meeting we will review the Initiative and answer any and all questions you might have.

The ACEC Green LA Initiative was born out of discussions with the Arts Earth Partnership (AEP) to help “green” DCA’s cultural facilities. The initial concept to inspect and provide “green” certification to our facilities led to working with other city agencies such as the Departments of Water and Power and General Services. Soon, additional alliances with public and private sector partners, in the effort to make a contribution to the Mayor’s initiate to Green LA, were secured.

Thus, we have created ACEC Green LA Initiative, a public awareness program to empower the public, local business and the entire LA community to think “green”. To drive the message home, the Initiative will conduct a ten-venue city-wide neighborhood tour of cultural facilities, featuring noted celebrity artists, city departments and private vendors providing education and publications on energy conservation, efficiency and savings.

The ACEC Green LA neighborhood tour will kick-off Saturday, March 6, 2010, present a mid-tour report on Earth Day Thursday, April 22, 2010 and end on Memorial Day Weekend, May 29, 2010.  A proposed Tour schedule is enclosed and more details will be made available at the orientation session being held at Barnsdall.

We are inviting the Council Offices in each district, Neighborhood Councils, Business Improvement Districts, local non-profits and city departments to actively participate in this Green LA Initiative. We look forward to your attendance and support.

For further information, please call Ernest Dillihay, DCA’s Performing Arts & Cultural Facilities Director at 213.202.5524, e-mail: Ernest.Dillihay@lacity.org .

I look forward to seeing you February 10, 2010. Thank you.
